In the month of February, the JHES Morning Assembly took on a special energy as our students and staff were treated to an inspiring series of guest speakers. We were fortunate to have several community leaders join us to share “Black History Moments,” offering valuable lessons about history, perseverance, and the power of education. Our special guests included:
Mrs. Michele Gray King, DCS School Board President
Dr. Melissa Scott, DCS Federal Programs Director
Dr. Wand Davis, DCS Elementary Curriculum Director
Dr. Larry Collier, Retired DCS Administrator
Mr. Bruce Jones, Decatur City Youth Services Director
Mrs. Anita Clarke, DCS Secondary Curriculum Director
Judge Takisha Gholston, Morgan County Municipal Court Judge
Each speaker brought their own unique perspective, and all of them shared one powerful message with our students: “No matter what you look like or where you come from, you can do anything you want if you are willing to work for it.” This uplifting theme was a thread that connected all of their stories and advice, inspiring our students to chase their dreams with determination and confidence.
We are so grateful to these amazing individuals for taking the time to share their knowledge, wisdom, and passion with our school community. Their contributions made Black History Month at JHES truly memorable, and we look forward to carrying these lessons forward throughout the year.
